Doncaster to Winchester

Departing: Doncaster, Gainsborough, Lincoln, Sleaford, Spalding
Please Note: This trip has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 virus

This trip replaces the one planned for the 7th April 2020. Today our comfortable Pullman train will take us on a fascinating journey around London to enjoy free time in the attractive and historic city of Winchester which can also boast of once being England's capital city.

After departure from Doncaster and picking up as detailed we head south along the East Coast route before leaving the main line just before Kings Cross to take the high level route around London. This route offers fascinating views across our capital as we thread our way through the complicated system of junctions and commuter lines which criss cross our capital city. Continuing south we expect to arrive in Winchester around midday to enjoy a break of three to four hours.

Winchester is a very attractive city with many beautiful buildings and museums to enjoy. You may wish to take a stroll along the River Itchen or perhaps visit the famous Cathedral. Alternatively take a look inside the great hall where hangs King Arthurs Round Table and if the Arthurian legend is of interest then do no forget that Winchester has many links to the great King. There is even a city walk from King Arthurs statue in the Broadway to his last known resting place beneath Hyde Abbey Garden. There are also plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants to enjoy.

After our time in Winchester we retrace our route around London and on to home stations expecting to arrive back mid to late evening.
