Steam Ban Due To High Fire Risk

Steam Ban Due to High Fire Risk

11th April 2025

Steam Ban

A steam ban has been put in place by Network Rail due to a very high fire risk in Scotland on the Fort William to Mallaig line, we are therefore having to run the Jacobite with a diesel engine.

Network Rail are not sure when the Jacobite can next be hauled by a steam engine, but it will not be before the 14th April. We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause, but this is completely out of our control.

All affected passengers (up to and including the 14th April)  have been contacted via email and sms text.

Each day we will discuss the situation with Network Rail and any further dates which are affected, will be communicated to affected passengers. Once the ban has been lifted, our steam engine will operate as normal and a notice will be posted here as well as a communication sent out to the following weeks passengers.
