About The Spirit of The Lakes Tours

West Coast Railways are pleased to offer a series of tours for 2022 aboard our beautifully restored land cruise train, 'Spirit of the Lakes', which all include a stylish Pullman service on board. All our diesel hauled excursions will feature lovingly restored Pullman coaches, each named after one of the English Lakes, for both dining and Pullman First Class passengers. These coaches represent the only genuine Pullman set operating on main line excursion trains in England. Each of these coaches has a maximum of thirty six seats making them extremely roomy and comfortable with renewed upholstery, carpets and curtains.

All our First Class and Standard Class passengers will travel in refurbished Mark I or Mark II coaches and will have access to a buffet for the purchase of teas, coffees and light refreshments. In addition all standard class seats are in roomy coaches with all seats at tables which offer splendid views through large picture windows.

On excursions where steam haulage is involved, coaching stock will consist of Premier Class vehicles, refurbished and appointed to a very high level of comfort.
As with our Pullman trains, Premier First Class passengers will be offered complimentary tea and coffee and be served a breakfast roll on the outward leg followed by a selection of Danish Pastries on the outward journey and a savoury selection followed by the cake of the day on the return journey. Dining passengers will again receive complimentary Buck's Fizz with breakfast, complimentary wine with dinner (one half bottle) and be served our exciting new menu, which includes Champagne and pre-dinner canapés along with those little extras and the high level of service you would expect from a Premier Dining train.

These vehicles offer the ultimate experience in luxury rail travel. To complement this our catering team in both First and Dining Class will offer an enhanced level of service. Pullman Dining passengers will receive complimentary Buck's Fizz with breakfast, complimentary wine with dinner (one half bottle) and a delicious menu, which includes pre-dinner petit fours and Champagne.
Premier / Pullman First Class passengers will be served a breakfast roll on the outward leg followed by a selection of Danish Pastries on the outward journey and a savoury selection followed by the cake of the day on the return journey. To accompany this, there will be a complimentary service of tea and coffee on both journeys.

Over the years West Coast Railways have always striven to improve their service and feel that the newly refurbished Pullman, First Class and Standard Class coaches will offer a consistently high level of comfort and ambiance from which to enjoy your day out by train.

The catering described above may differ on your chosen trip. Each trip page when describing the trip, will show the catering description relevant to that trip.

It should be remembered that charter trains are not considered time critical by Network Rail and can be delayed to allow the passage of high speed trains. Similarly although we offer provisional timings as a guide your confirmed departure time will be advised with your seat numbers approximately 7 days before travel.
