The Tay Express
Please Note: This trip is hauled by vintage diesel
York to The City of Perth
Departs – Wednesday 23 May 2018
From York, Thirsk, Northallerton, Darlington and Newcastle.
Departing early morning from York our heritage diesel takes charge of its splendid rake of ex British Rail liveried maroon coaches for the journey up the East Coast through Edinburgh to Perth.
After departing Newcastle, we head towards Morpeth and continue north. From the comfort of our reserved seat we can enjoy splendid views to Alnmouth Bay and, as we journey on, we pass by Holy Island, cross the Royal Border Bridge at Berwick upon Tweed and then race along the coast, with some cliff top views, passing through Dunbar and alongside the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh.
Continuing on from Edinburgh we cross the Firth of Forth and enjoy views of the River Tay as we approach Perth.
The city of Perth has a bustling centre and sits in an attractive position alongside the River Tay, one of Scotland's most beautiful rivers. The Black Watch Museum is located here and there are also gardens to be explored and riverside paths and views to be enjoyed.
After our visit, the long hours of the spring day mean we can enjoy the glorious views from the train once again as we make our way south and home.
PREMIER DINING CLASS: Includes an at seat silver service of full English Breakfast in the morning, a selection of pastries with coffee mid journey and a four course meal on the return journey all freshly prepared by our skilled chefs on board the train.
FIRST CLASS: First Class passengers will be served complimentary teas and coffees along with biscuits or cakes on both the outward and the return journey.
CHILDREN UNDER 5 can be brought on the train free of charge only if not taking up a seat and sharing seats with accompanying adults.
REFRESHMENTS: A buffet counter service of snacks, hot and cold drinks, and alcoholic beverages is available to all our Standard and First Class passengers throughout the day. You are also welcome to bring your own refreshments or indeed a tasty picnic to enjoy as the countryside passes by!
First Class and Premier Dining passengers can book a private table for a supplement of £20.00 per person.
